Health & Wellness
Extension combines community collaboration with hands-on education to support early childhood educators and boost access to food and preventive services. We make it easier for everyone to live well.
On our path forward, we will:
- Enhance access to affordable, healthy food and water by supporting home, school and community gardens, food preservation, local food pipelines and teaching drought-adapted growing practices.
- Deliver hands-on nutrition and physical activity education in every county.
- Incorporate emotional well-being and stress management skills across our spectrum of nutrition and family education programs.
- Offer tribal communities culturally meaningful youth development and adult education that promotes wellness, enhances food access and boosts nutrition.
Impact on Arizona
More than 90 percent of Arizonans who took our needs assessment survey said early childhood health and access to healthy food and healthcare is very important. Cooperative Extension programs improve both.
Finding solutions
We help Arizonans stay on the winding path to wellbeing by teaching nutrition and relationship strategies to families and stress management to ranchers.
AgriStress Helpline
We offer an emotional lifeline to ranch and farm workers who might not know where to turn when things get tough.
Family Resource Centers
We make resources, trained staff and community support accessible, so caregivers can prepare young children for life.
Tucson Village Farm
We connect young people to food systems, teach them how to grow and prepare fresh food and empower them to make healthy choices.
Diabetes Prevention Program
Our yearlong program encourages lifestyle changes shown to reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes.
