Termites can be placed into 3 general categories based on their habitat: dampwood, drywood and subterranean. In Arizona, dampwoods do not present wide spread pest problems, but can be problematic under certain conditions. In certain lo- cations throughout the state, drywood termites are significant and costly pests. Subterranean termites are considered major urban pests throughout the state. The purpose of this publication is to introduce the reader, in particular homeowners and pest management professionals (PMP’s), to termites in general, and more specifically the pest species that inhabit Arizona.
