Copper Clover Buddies

Youth in leadership roles will learn to support other youth in their development with skills in belonging, mastery, independence and generosity. They will improve their life skills of decision-making, problem solving, responsibility, teamwork, leading groups, conflict resolution and much more. This club will meet once a monthly with teen leaders through out all of Gila County.

Gila County K9 Companions

Learn how to properly handle and care for your K9 companions with lessons on obedience, agility, rally, showmanship, training and preparing for competitions. We start with obedience, then rally, agility and showmanship. The Foster Dog Program is new this year and more information to come.

For the safety of all youth and canines:

  • Shots - All dogs need to be up to date with their rabies shots and other vaccinations .
  •  Licenses - We plan on doing some really fun things with our k9 counter parts that will include taking them in public at time
  • Collar and Leashes - A well fitted collar is a great identifier, and when used in conjunction with a leash becomes a great tool to train and control your furry friend. A training collar is useful, also a six foot leash is required
  • TO HAVE FUN - Just breath, there is no magic that will make your dog do what you want immediately. With patience and understanding you will be amazed at what can be accomplished.

Suggestions that can make your time with this club more productive:

  1. Spend some time with your dog exercising and bonding before meetings. If your dog has a lot of pent up energy it will be difficult to maintain focus and to get everything accomplished.
  2. Have an understanding of what you would like to accomplish. You need to know where you are going to get there. Whether you goal is to run an agility course, train of obedience, or simply correct unwanted behaviors to become a better partner to your companion.
  3. Be ready to have fun. Things can get frustrating when there are different things that grab your dog's attention and now they won't listen at all. This happens sometimes, do not get upset we will help you the best we can. At the end of the day, your dog is a living creature and sometimes will not cooperate, this tends to get easier with practice. Be patient it will get easier and is well worth the investment in your time.
  4. Spend time with your Companion daily working on simply exercises.
