Wildfire
Wherever you live in Arizona, wildfire can reach you. We can help you keep your home and family safe.
Why Fires Are Getting Worse
In the past 25 years, wildfires in Arizona have become more common and more destructive. Generally higher temperatures and invasive plants, including stinknet, red brome and buffelgrass, are partly to blame. These drought-resistant, non-native species dry out in summer, raising wildfire risk and intensity. Three basic factors affect wildfire – weather, topography, and fuel. The only one we can control is fuel, and Cooperative Extension can help you do that around your home.
