Youth Agricultural Leadership Program (YALP)

When

8 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., March 11 – 13, 2024

Where

The University of Arizona Maricopa County Cooperative Extension’s Agricultural Literacy & STEM program and Arizona Health Zone (SNAP-Ed) will be holding an immersive youth agricultural training program March 11-13, 2024.

During the immersive, students will learn cooking and gardening skills and experience different parts of Phoenix’s local food system through hands-on farm demonstrations, discussions with producers, and participating in educational workshops. Students will also learn about the variety of job and career opportunities that are available in Arizona agriculture.

Students will represent their communities over three days of their spring break, each day focusing on a different area of our local food system. Day 1 will focus on gardening and cooking skills that students can apply to their lives and share with their families. Day 2 will focus on farm tours and engaging with our local producers. Day 3 will focus on farmers markets and job opportunities in agriculture. When students have completed the program, they will be presented with a certificate of completion and will receive letters of recommendation for future employment or colleges if needed.
