Speaker: Maricopa County Master Gardener Katie Coates

CLASS INFO:
Whether you desire lots of blooming plants for color and pollinators or the simple beauty of cacti, agave and other desert plants, our speaker Katie Coates will review some favorite native and desert-adapted plants for your home landscape in the Valley. The Sonoran Desert is full of texture, color, contrast and beauty. Knowing which plants will work well based on exposure, size, growth characteristics and habitat benefits is key to creating a beautiful outdoor landscape for your home.

SPEAKER BIO:
Katie has lived in Arizona, California and Colorado. After moving to Arizona 17 years ago, Katie blended her skills in Rocky Mountain gardening with desert landscaping. She became a Certified Desert Landscape Designer through Desert Botanical Gardens in 2010 and a University of Arizona Maricopa County Master Gardener in 2014. She has written about seasonal blooming plants periodically in Phoenix Home & Garden magazine. When designing outdoor environments through her firm PaloOco Design, Katie plans with the client’s lifestyle and interests in mind. Katie emphasizes that the key to success is choosing the right plants that require less water and to invite wildlife and pollinators into the garden.
