The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program is a community-based, relationship-driven, hands-on educational approach program designed to assist families with limited financial resources in their efforts to learn how to eat healthier meals on a budget, make improvements in food safety, physical activity, and connect with their community resources to improve food access. EFNEP offers a space for conversation and collaborative learning.
Our program is free of charge to participants and aims to help them make small, sustainable changes for long-term success.
Sessions are 60-90 minutes, once a week for eight to ten weeks for adult participants (and families), and one hour once a week for five weeks for youth-only participants. The number of lessons and the number of weeks are designed to reinforce learning and allow participants to apply the newly learned information. Sessions can be held at a community center, family resource center, school, place of worship, or in our Cooperative Extension office.
Graduates of the program improve their diets and their nutritional practices, handle food more safely, increase their physical activity, and are able to connect with local resources. Participants who graduate from the program also receive a Certificate of Completion from our University of Arizona Cooperative Extension office.
The EFNEP program is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture through the University of Arizona and Cooperative Extension offices statewide.
