2022 Arizona Winter Citrus Workshop

The University of Arizona Yuma County Cooperative Extension hosted the 2022 Arizona Winter Citrus Workshop.
This is a two hour workshop with six different speakers talking about current status of HLB disease in Florida, Texas, California, and Arizona. California Red scale program updates for the 2022 season for Yuma County, Citrus Health Management Area Yuma County Update for Spring 2022. Traditional and New Methods of Scouting for the Asian Citrus Psyllid (ACP). Latest research findings on lemon canker and wood rot diseases. The spread of citrus brown wood rot in Yuma. Common insect pests and diseases in Southern CA/AZ citrus production. Special focus will be on citrus thrips and Phytophthora root rot. Insects biology, damage, spray application parameters, and chemical control options.

2022 Arizona Winter Date Workshop

The University of Arizona Yuma County Cooperative Extension hosted the Arizona Winter Date Workshop.
This is a one hour workshop with 4 different speakers talking about research results on pollen concentration needed for effective date pollination and the metaxenia effect as it relates to Medjool dates. Preliminary results on chemical thinning of date fruit, using plant growth regulators. Irrigation management issues in the California date palms, irrigation tools and technologies available for date palms growers to enhance water use efficiency. Insects and mites that cause economic loss to date producers. Dealing with skin separation in Medjool dates and present strategies for reducing the amount of “puffy skin” in dates. Herbicides for use in date palms (bearing and non-bearing). Developing good weed control to prevent weed bank buildup. Date palm diseases associated with Fusarium, Phytoplasmas, Stigmina, Nalanthamala, and Ceratocystis.

Ag Chem and Water Quality

Dr. Karl Wyant, Director of Agronomy with Nutrien will talk about how spray water quality can negatively impact Ag chemical performance. He will also explain to us how to use a water quality sample to predict future interactions or explain current results, when and how to sample spray water and how to understand a water quality sample report. Dr. Wyant will break down a spray water quality report and explain the effects it has on the chemicals it is mixed with. This course is designed for Ag Chem professionals and Pest Control Advisors.

Maximizing the fundamentals of IPM, an organic approach to IPM

Macey Keith, AZ PCA, CA QAL and a Desert Southwest sales representative for San-Agrow. Macey will help us understand the differences between traditional IPM vs organic IPM. She will also identify each management strategy in the IPM triangle as well as define what a fertilizer is and their importance in organic IPM. The Capstone Project/ Dr. Charles A. Sanchez (13:57)

The Capstone Project is a series that goes into the highlights of careers in agriculture research. These are one-on-one interviews with agriculture professionals that have spent their careers building a knowledge base by studying field research trials and developing skills and techniques through trial and error. The interviews are to help share and pass on their knowledge of a specific topic that they have spent years developing. This is the first in a multiple video series and features Dr. Charles A. Sanchez and his studies with Zinc (Zn), Dr. Sanchez is with UArizona Department of Environmental Sciences and will look at the traditional Zn recommendations and the latest recommendations based on work he has done over the past decade. He will also talk about survey results in the context of soil tests.
