Climate Resilience
Arid environments produce 60 percent of the world's food and are home to many of our fastest-growing populations. In the water-scarce Southwest and throughout the world, our research helps growers produce more food with less water and more fiber with fewer chemicals.
On our path forward, we will:
- Insulate agriculture and Arizona's economy against climate fluctuations with stronger rangeland management, improved productivity and cutting-edge techniques.
- Strengthen food systems and teach families and communities climate awareness and heat resilience strategies that empower them to adapt.
Study and teach ways to preserve Arizona's most precious natural resource, water, through law, policy and science.
Impact on Arizona
In our survey of more than 3,200 Arizonans, five of the top 10 priorities among respondents were related to water or drought. As Arizona gets warmer and drier, Cooperative Extension science will be there to support everyone from backyard gardeners to major corporations that feed the nation.
