Brain Waves

This three-class series shares the wonders of how children's brains grow and learn. Parents will increase their knowledge of early brain development; the development of emotions and temperament; and strategies to guide and strengthen young children.

Caring for the Caregiver

The Family Engagement Program at UA Cooperative Extension is piloting a special new program called Caring for the Caregiver – a three session series designed to support the custodial caregivers of children with incarcerated parents. Dinner and Childcare will be provided. Incentives provided for families who complete all program components.

Empowering People in the Workplace

Empowering People in the Workplace is a curriculum designed to improve workplace climate and culture – using the Positive Discipline Curriculum. Employees learn skills to improve relationships with each other. Topics include ‘listening beyond the words, solutions vs. consequences and clarifying your why’. Participants feel better able to manage conflict and become more motivated in their work.

Money Talks: Family Edition

Do you know what your teens think about money? What drives their decisions? Do they have the life skills they need to make good financial choices? 
This special two-generation class helps you and your teens make decisions as a family and plan for the future. For parents and their youth ages 12-18, this 8-session workshop is guaranteed to start new conversations in your home!

Partners in Parenting Education

We can offer anywhere from 1-20 PIPE classes. Parents will learn how to tune into their child's communication, let their child lead play time and help their child regulate his or her emotions. Class options include: Emotional Refueling, Each Child is Different, Love and Limits, Love is Sometimes a Rocky Road, and Playing is Learning about Differences

Positive Discipline

Positive Discipline Workshops are based on the theory that children behave better when they experience a sense of belonging. Each workshop provides new tools to help bridge communication gaps, win cooperation at home and school, defuse power struggles and communicate a message of love.

Positive Parenting Program

Each of the four modules below are part of the Triple P – Positive Parenting Program. With a range of focus areas, these curricula are evidence-based – proven to reduce stress levels in parents and behavior problems in children.

Triple P Child Behavior Management Series: This 5-8-session series (4 in-person + 1-3 phone consultation/s) is based on the Triple P curriculum, which is proven to reduce behavior problems in children by helping parents remain positive in the most challenging situations with their children. Participants will learn why children behave the way they do, how to teach new skills and positive behaviors, tools to manage misbehavior and how to plan ahead for high-risk situations.

Triple P Selected Seminars: These three distinct workshops cover three topic areas: the Power of Positive Parenting; Raising Competent, Confident Children; and Raising Resilient Children.

Triple P Stepping Stones: Stepping Stones is 9-session series (6 in-person + 3 phone consultations) designed for families of children with a range of disabilities including autism spectrum disorders and elevated levels of disruptive behavior. As with all Triple P courses, parents learn how to improve their relationship with their child, set goals for positive behavior, develop routines and plan for high-risk situations. This class has a special emphasis on communication, problem-solving, self-care and self-regulation.

Triple P Discussion Group: Discussion Group are 2-hour small group sessions, targeting a specific problem behavior or issue. Each discussion group can be taken as a stand-alone session or as part of a series.

Topic 3: Developing good bedtime routines 

Topic 4: Hassle-free shopping with children

Triple P Fear-Less: Helping your children aged 6-14 learn to manage anxiety
Practitioners introduce parents to some information about anxiety and provide positive parenting strategies that support the development and behavior of children with anxiety. This workshop offers parents tools to better respond to your child’s anxiety. Fear-Less is also proven to decrease the need for clinical intervention in children.

The topics covered include:
• Understanding how anxiety works.
• Becoming the best possible model of anxiety management
for all their children.
• Becoming effective emotion coaches.
• Understanding and teaching the value of flexible thinking.
• Managing their children’s anxiety effectively.
• Using constructive coping.

The Family Engagement Program at UA Cooperative Extension Pima County is pleased to be a part of a program funded by First Things First and administered by United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona. In collaboration with 6 community partners, the Family Engagement Program offers brain development, child behavior management workshops, and fun activities for parents and children that engage the senses.

Garden Discovery Days

Parents and kids will buzz like bees, emerge as a beautiful butterflies and cluck like chickens! Garden Discovery Days are adventures that connect your child with the garden as they learn where their food comes from and engage in nature crafts. Children are involved in the entire class.

Musical Expressions

This class will encourage children to artistically express what they feel through music onto paper and through fun dance moves. Art and music invigorate young children's minds to be creative, imaginative, expressive, confident, engaged and so much more!

Fine Arts for Kids

A fun and creative class designed for children and their parents or caregivers! Together, you’ll explore hands-on activities that encourage focus, help build self-control and promote teamwork and communication. It’s a great way to bond, learn, and get inspired through art!

Kids' Yoga

Kids’ Yoga is an interactive activity for parents and children to connect with each other and their bodies. A great and fun way to improve your child's mobility and help them learn techniques to manage stress and emotions.
