Pinal County Projects

The experiential learning process is a key educational method of 4-H learning. Thus, 4-H promotes and sponsors numerous programs and activities designed to encourage youth development through “learning by doing”. This educational model requires that youth to solve problems by first attempting an activity, and repeating their attempt until they accomplish the skill. The state and district 4-H horse shows are competitive experiences that assist in this learning process.

Safely caring for, preparing, and exhibiting a horse at home and at horse shows is a long-term process. For most youth, the greatest accomplishments and long-term rewards of the program are achieved through the actual preparation for competition. Youth development requires 4-H members to seek information from many sources including written and visual educational aids, as well as the advice and assistance of leaders and horse industry experts.

State and National Horse Shows

Livestock, in Pinal County, is divided into large animals (cattle, sheep, pigs and Boer goats) and small animals (dairy goats, rabbits, birds and cavies). The Pinal County fair is the second week of March in Casa Grande. The state fair happens in October at the State fairgrounds in Phoenix. There are also many other livestock shows offered around our state and county in the cooler months of the year.

4-H aims to grow the next generation of inventors, entrepreneurs, and problem-solvers by giving youth plenty of opportunities to try their hands at real world science.

In 4-H STEM, we create supportive relationships that cultivate wonder and fuel learning through investigation and design. Youth and adults work together to create new understanding and design community solutions. 4-Hers grow to become leaders in STEM, work in STEM Careers, and serve their community using STEM.

Resources

The focus of all 4-H programs is the development of youth as individuals and as responsible and productive citizens. The 4-H Shooting Sports Program stands out as an example. Youth learn marksmanship, the safe and responsible use of firearms, the principles of hunting and archery, and much more. The activities of the program and the support of caring adult leaders provide young people with opportunities to develop life skills, self-worth, and conservation ethics.
