Ranch Education & Ag Stewardship

Providing hands-on experiences and education to young people ages 8-18-years-old in southern Arizona who are part of 4-H and Future Farmers of America. We partner with Pima County Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation and the Bar V Ranch in Vail, Arizona to provide:

  • Tours of the Bar V Ranch
  • Cow-work demonstrations
  • Rangeland assessment and field work
  • Ranch education
  • Animal health and nutrition information

Bar V Ranch Open House

Tour a working ranch and experience what it takes to care for animals. You'll also learn about grass and animal identification and hike to Mezcal Springs.

Rangeland Monitoring

Gain skills in identifying plant species in southern Arizona and learn to collect plant samples.

Cowkid Campout

Learn about the mountain ranges around Bar V ranch, leave-no-trace land ethics, how to make seed balls to revegetate ranch lands, native grass species and about conservation.

Cattle Roundup

Participate in a cattle roundup and learn how to conduct pregnancy checks on cattle and how to begin the calf weaning process. The University of Arizona College of Veterinary Medicine shows how to assess cattle body condition and scan cattle with an ultrasound machine to check for pregnancy.
