NEW! Short Take: Highlighting Native Plants: Desert Milkweed (Asclepias subulata), Pineleaf Milkweed (Asclepias linaria), and Arizona Milkweed,(Asclepias angustifolia)

Presented by the Pima County Master Gardeners

When

Oct. 5, 2026, Noon – 12:30 p.m.

Short Takes are 15-30 minute classes that focus on a single idea with straightforward, common-sense information that will help you increase your gardening success.

Milkweeds for monarch and queen butterflies are among the most ecologically important native plants a Tucson gardener can grow. Discover three UA-recommended desert milkweeds — Desert, Arizona, and Pine-needle — as we explore their natural habitats, growth habits, and roles in the Monarch butterfly lifecycle. Along the way, we'll share tips for planting and seasonal care. Learn how these resilient natives provide season-long blooms, support monarch caterpillars and migrating adults, and fit beautifully into water-wise Tucson landscapes. Whether you're new to pollinator gardening or ready to make your yard a monarch waystation and friendly to other pollinators, these three milkweeds are a meaningful and rewarding place to start.

This class will be live on zoom. You must register in advance for this meeting using this link:
