Invasive Plant of the Month: Stinknet - Our New Wildfire Fuel

Presented by the Pima County Master Gardeners

When

5 – 6 p.m., Jan. 21, 2026

Part of an ongoing series on invasive species in the Sonoran Desert, this talk provides an in-depth look at one invasive plant, exploring its ecological impacts, adaptive strategies, and management approaches. The presentation lasts approximately 30 minutes, followed by a Q&A session for further exploration.

Join us for a deep dive into Oncosiphon pilulifer, commonly known as stinknet—a dangerous invasive plant that requires active control. Ben Tully, Invasive Species Outreach Coordinator with UA Cooperative Extension, will explain why stinknet is a threat, how to identify it, and the most effective control methods. This talk is part of an ongoing series examining invasive plants that threaten the Sonoran Desert, with each session offering insights into a species’ history, spread, identification, and best practices for removal.
