Battling Buffelgrass: Understanding and Managing an Invasive Threat

Presented by the Pima County Master Gardeners

When

5 – 5:30 p.m., Sept. 17, 2025

Part of an ongoing series on invasive species in the Sonoran Desert, this talk provides an in-depth look at one invasive plant, exploring its ecological impacts, adaptive strategies, and management approaches. The presentation lasts approximately 30 minutes, followed by a Q&A session for further exploration.

Join us for an eye-opening talk with Ben Tully, the AZ Cooperative Extension Invasive Species Specialist focused on the impact of Buffelgrass—a highly invasive, fire-promoting species threatening native ecosystems across the Southwest. Learn how it spreads, why it’s dangerous, and what landowners, communities, and volunteers can do to help control it. This session will offer science-based strategies and local insights into managing one of the region’s most urgent ecological challenges.

The class will be live on Zoom and you must register in advance.
