Mosquitoes

They're Not Just Annoying

You might think of mosquitoes as just a nuisance, but they also carry diseases that kill hundreds of thousands of people worldwide every year – far more than all other animals combined.

Researchers estimate that mosquito-borne health threats, including malaria, dengue, yellow fever, chikungunya, encephalitis, West Nile and others, have killed tens of billions of people through history – almost half of all people who have ever lived.

University of Arizona Cooperative Extension researchers have studied mosquitoes’ breeding habits, diseases, ways to control them, and ways to educate the public about the threats.

Check out the links below for more information about the tiny pests that pose a significant health threat for half the world’s population.
