January ​is ​the ​time ​to ​plant ​your ​roses ​to ​give ​them ​the ​best ​chance ​at ​giving ​you ​the ​incredible ​blooms ​of ​your ​dreams. ​Master ​Gardener ​Kris ​Christensen ​will ​show ​you ​how ​to ​select, ​plant ​and ​maintain ​your ​incredible ​rose ​garden ​for ​the ​best ​results.

Learning ​Objectives: ​ ​
Ensure ​your ​roses ​have ​what ​it ​takes ​to ​produce ​two ​fabulous ​full-color ​shows ​each ​year ​by ​learning ​how ​and ​when ​to:
• ​Select ​and ​plant ​new ​roses ​whether ​bare ​root ​or ​potted;
• ​Enrich ​the ​soil ​foundation ​for ​healthy ​roses; ​
• ​Feed/fertilize ​roses;
• ​Irrigate ​roses;
• ​Understand ​the ​12-month ​cycle ​for ​rose ​maintenance ​in ​the ​low ​desert;
• ​Prune ​roses ​to ​encourage ​flower ​production.

Instructor: ​Kris ​Christensen
Kris ​Christensen ​is ​a ​retired ​banker, ​training ​and ​development ​professional ​and ​quality ​manager ​who ​has ​lived ​in ​the ​Valley ​for ​more ​than ​30 ​years. ​ ​Having ​grown ​up ​on ​a ​farm ​in ​Utah, ​she ​adapted ​her ​gardening ​skills ​and ​interests ​to ​the ​desert. ​Kris ​is ​a ​Maricopa ​County ​Master ​Gardener ​with ​special ​interests ​in ​garden ​design ​and ​growing ​roses ​and ​vegetables. ​ ​Her ​experience ​as ​a ​volunteer ​for ​the ​Desert ​Botanical ​Garden ​has ​added ​to ​her ​expertise ​in ​and ​love ​for ​desert-adapted ​plants. ​Kris ​is ​an ​active ​member ​of ​the ​Master ​Gardener ​Speakers ​Bureau ​and ​a ​past ​member ​of ​Toastmasters ​International. ​ ​
