2022 Hippology State Contest
A fun, friendly competition, where 4-H'ers of all age show their knowledge and understanding of equine science and husbandry. Any 4-H'er can join — you don't need to be in the horse project or own a horse!
A series of stations or tables will test contestants' knowledge on for example:
- Types of saddles (actual or pictured)
- Parts of saddles, tack, bits, bridles, horse shoes or parts of shoes
- Tools and equipment
- Grains and forages
- Internal and external parasites, blemishes and unsoundness
- Horse's age based on teeth, pulse rate, respiration rate, temperature, signs of dehydration or anemia, wither height, shoe size, girth, collar size, gullet width and seat length of saddle
- shoe size, girth, collar size, gullet width and seat length of saddle

This event is also a qualifier for seniors for Western National Roundup 2023 in Denver. Seniors may qualify in the Horse Classic: Hippology Contest. More information here(link is external). (note: 2023 rules currently under review)
