Informed Arizona Equestrian Webinar Series: Parasites in the Horse

Informed Arizona Equestrian logo

Join Dr. Betsy Greene (UArizona Horse Extension Specialist) as she hosts Dr. Danielle Smarsh (Penn State) in an informative talk on equine parasites, management, and treatment options.  A Q&A session will follow the webinar.

Title: Opening up a can of worms: Understanding and managing equine parasites

Talk Description:
The way in which we deworm horses is rapidly changing as the horse world learns more about ways to manage resistance to dewormers. This talk will cover the main types of parasites found in horses (in particular small strongyles) and how to manage them in a way that keeps your horse healthy and reduces the rate of resistance to dewormers (also known as anthelmintics).  Topics covered during the talk will include parasite life cycles, anthelmintic resistance, fecal egg counts, and management strategies.
