Arizona Gardeners: Follow basic rules of pruning to avoid damaging your trees

It is time to review the basics of proper tree pruning.

With cold weather here, the leaves are falling from our deciduous trees and shrubs. When the leaves are gone, it is time to prune. Exceptions to that basic rule would be the native trees like mesquite and palo verde. Even though these might lose their leaves, they are best pruned during the hot summer months. They just seem to do better.
