The Arizona Cooperative Extension Citrus Management program includes information on citrus, date palm and other tree fruit physiology and production practices. Research includes investigating ways to improve irrigation and fertilization efficiency while not sacrificing citrus yield or quality, and cultural practices that may be used in improve citrus fruit packout.
Regular pruning for desert-grown citrus trees should take place in the spring, between February and April. Citrus-growing areas of the state which are cooler should delay the beginning of pruning until late-February or March. Most pruning that requires tools should occur at this time.
