The 15th annual Pima County Master Gardeners Home Garden Tour will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2012 from 9:00am - 3:00pm. The tour is sponsored by the University of Arizona Pima County Cooperative Extension and will include the working home gardens of Master Gardeners in the Tucson area.
In addition to the demonstration gardens at the Pima County Extension office, this year the tour will feature four home gardens on the North side of Tucson, each with a different educational focus. Mini-classes are scheduled on the hour at each property, with handouts available, from 9:00 to 3:00. Subjects include bountiful vegetable gardening - both in ground and above ground; water harvesting; successful container gardening; how to plan or repair irrigation systems; choosing a system appropriate for trees, desert plants, perennials, or annuals, in pots or in the ground; kick-starting your compost; planning a successful fruit tree harvest (apricot, peach, etc.) and a peek at a home which is working on a 'zero energy footprint' goal. Hosts and Master Gardeners will also be on hand at all stops to answer gardening questions. All this for only $10 a ticket or a carpool special of $30 for 4 tickets! What a bargain!
The Master Gardeners Home Garden Tour is a self-guided event. Most of the gardens you will see are at private residences and may not be handicapped accessible. A map of the tour stops and directions will be provided on the tickets, and signs will be displayed as you near the gardens. Participants may tour as many of the gardens as they wish, and in any order they wish. We strongly encourage carpooling between the garden sites.
