Family Resource Centers

The University of Arizona Cooperative Extension Family Resource Centers operate in South Phoenix, Nogales, and Rio Rico . Funded by First Things First, the centers serve as a place for families of children birth to age 5 to:

  • engage with their children in learning activities,
  • find out about child growth and development,
  • take parenting classes and
  • connect with other resources.

The goal of the centers is to help parents and caregivers prepare their young for kindergarten by engaging in positive, appropriate and meaningful ways.

Through parent-child interactive classes, workshops, resource rooms and special events, families come together in an atmosphere of play and learning. Each family resource center is unique to the community with a flavor all their own.

Strengthening Families is a multi-session parent education program in Pinal and Santa Cruz Counties, that addresses families with children 3-5 years of age; it meets weekly with both parents and children. Parents As Teachers is a home visitation program in South Phoenix that helps parents encourage their child's positive development in collaboration with a parent educator one on one.
